Knitting is in my DNA.
I didn’t just pick up a pair of needles one day; I was born into them. In my family, knitting is a language passed down through generations—from my great-grandmother to my grandmother, to my mother, and finally to me. For as long as I can remember, the rhythmic click of needles has been the soundtrack to my life. Growing up in Latvia, I watched the women in my family turn simple wool into intricate masterpieces.
While I’ve been knitting since I was a child, it has always been more than just a way to make a sweater. For me, knitting is meditation. In a world that moves too fast, there is something deeply grounding about the repetitive motion of the yarn. It’s my quiet space, my mental reset, and my favorite way to find "zen."
Two years ago, my relationship with knitting changed. I moved to Finland, and suddenly, with the long Nordic winters and more free time on my hands than ever before, I decided to take my hobby "seriously."
Finland’s rich knitting culture inspired me to push past the basics and truly explore what’s possible with a ball of yarn. Now, I’ve brought those needles with me to my new home in Poland, where my stash of wool continues to grow!
Here’s the truth: I am definitely not a "master" knitter. Even after a lifetime of stitches, I still get stuck. I still drop stitches, I still struggle with complex lace, and I still have to look up tutorials on YouTube. But that’s exactly why I started this blog.
I’m a lifelong learner, just like you. There is always a new technique to discover, a better way to hold the tension, or a beautiful new fiber to try. This blog is a place for us to:
Whether you’re a beginner or have been knitting as long as I have, I’d love to hear your story.
